Birmingham Best Bar None Awards - community safety award ‘winner selected’!
The winner of the Birmingham Community Safety Partnership Award has been chosen as they have demonstrated creative thinking about the impact their venue has on the local community and how by getting involved in partnership work with the police they can reduce crime and disorder.
Their application demonstrates their understanding of the physical environment as well as how good internal management policies can be very effective at reducing crime.
The bar has effective policies on drugs and lost property and this shows the impact that a licensee can have on controlling problems.
Many pubs and clubs have very good policies on drugs and drunkenness and almost treat this as ‘normal business’, which helps contribute to the personal safety of their customers.
However most venues are not aware of the problem of lost property in licensed premises.
Unattended bags and coats can be a magnet for criminals and the distress and aggravation from having your purse, keys or phone taken from a coat left in a corner is the same as if you have been pick-pocketed or car broken into.
This kind of theft is an increasing problem in Birmingham, Birmingham Community Safety Partnership and West Midlands Police are keen to work with licensees and pub and club goers to reduce this crime.
