RESIDENTS RELIEVED AT END OF NINE-YEAR ORDEAL

Birmingham Community Safety Partnership has successfully secured two Anti-Social Behaviour Orders to protect a community in Kings Heath from further harassment.

Damien Isaac (30) and Yanik Goleniowski (23), both of Addison Road, received five year Anti-Social Behaviour Orders at Birmingham Magistrates Court, finalised today, meaning they are now both banned from entering or associating with each other and from intimidating or harassing residents in the Addison Rd area. Isaac has also been banned from his home address.

The pair were accused of nine years worth of terror which included causing violence, fighting with knives, using foul and abusive language, begging, damage to cars and spitting.

This action was taken following a complaint from one local resident in Addison Road concerning neighbour nuisance. An investigation was conducted by Safer Communities Officers and police officers which included gathering information from local residents.

Statements were eventually taken off three brave local residents - unfortunately, a large number were reluctant to provide evidence for fear of retribution.

Sgt Tracie Wharton from the Moseley and Kings Heath Neighbourhood Team said: “Our communities regularly tell us that tackling anti-social behaviour should be a priority for us, so we are really pleased that we have these ASBOs in place to help us control the behaviour of these two people.

“The knowledge and information from the local residents was vital in securing these orders and promotes the fantastic working relationship that has developed with the local neighbourhood policing team and the Safer Communities Officers from Birmingham Community Safety Partnership.

“These orders send out a clear message that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and action will be taken where appropriate.”

Both are suspected as being abusers of drugs and alcohol and had been in and out of prison in the last few years having been convicted of criminal offences resulting in custodial sentences, which coincided with a complaint to the Safer Communities Officers. Yanik accepted the ASBO without contesting the matter but Damien challenged the proposed Order.

Councillor Ayoub Khan, Cabinet Member for Local Services & Community Safety comments, “These orders were both necessary and proportionate in protecting the residents of Addison Road. These two individuals are responsible for a long period of harassment, alarm and distress which has severely affected the local residents and reduced their quality of life. These orders will prevent these two individuals from entering the area in the future and will hopefully be the precursor to them adjusting their ways.”
